Wife made me laugh - "GAS Money"
Mind you, my wife tolerates my preparedness side of me and for the most part agrees with my prudence so this one hit me unexpectedly. I was sitting down working on "family the budget" when my wife says, don't forget GAS money and of course I replied, that's already in there. She shakes her head and spells it out, G...A...S... money. Still uncertain what she means I give her a quizzical look.
She promptly goes "DUH!" G- Gold, A- Ammo, S- Supplies! Boy that made me smile. I honestly, have never her that before. Any ways, just thought I would share :) Dave |

Re: Wife made me laugh - "GAS Money"
My wife does get it. She's starting to understand all my rantings about the FED and fiat money creation out of thin air.
She buys me 12 silver oz for the 12 days of xmas. This year she got me two 1/10 oz gold coins...because as she said..."that's all I could afford..." heh heh heh....:smokin: Anytime her sister asks what I want for xmas it's "gold or silver". They have been buying me silver for the past 4 years, not much, but enough for them to realize..."hey, we spent $80 on that 10 oz xmas bar 2 years ago and now it's $240!!!" Hopefully, they are wondering...what's going on here.... It does pay to give.... |
Re: Wife made me laugh - "GAS Money"
:rolleyes_m: Consider yourself lucky Dave...no such luck at the RR bunker.
When gasoline tops $7.00 a gallon and bread is $5.00 a loaf my wife would consider we are in a slight recession for a grand total of maybe five seconds. Then off to the mall to buy more shoes :D:D Even being married to a hard core survivalist has no effect,it bounces off and doesn't sink in. I classify her as a very intelligent person who absolutely has no intention of believing the DOW could crash or America will not remain the same for the next one hundred years. She thought I had went insane stocking up groceries and survival items prior to Y2K since nobody she knew was doing it. Go figure... Anyway....I lost that round. She is a very religious person with a blind side three miles wide that honestly believes GOD will provide and protect all the true Christians from any harm or starvation through war or economic meltdown...just go about your life and leave the driving to Jesus. Sad...very sad. I always figured if GOD really does exist he gave me a brain to reason truth over fiction...to not use it is the deadliest sin. Between the MSM and religion it's a battle that is best not fought...I have enough brains to call it a permanent checkmate and go it alone. We are basically complete polar opposites...maybe that's why we get along so well...weird,but it works for us. This much I have found to be true from personal experience,so take it for what it's worth: All you guys who are encountering strong resistance and ridicule buying PMs and survival supplies for the safety of your family ? I am a born salesman with extraordinary powers of persuasion when it comes to raw charisma and attention to detail and knowledge. Selling millions of dollars worth of equipment to hard case companies nobody could budge was my specialty. I was sent out as the Terminator of the sales department to potential customers who threw our district sales reps out the door and bought from one of our competitors. I usually sold them a few million dollars worth of our equipment 99.9% of the time and talked them into junking our competitors equipment within an hour once I got past the reception area. I never made an appointment either...cold sales calls throw them off their game and confuses them. :D:D:D Moral ? Your family and friends will seldom take you seriously no matter what sales pitch you throw at them. They either believe you after you present the facts or they don't...don't make waves if they ignore you. Once you are twenty miles from home you become a certified expert and the smartest person on the planet with strangers who have never met you. They will listen and follow your advice without question...your family will consider you mentally deranged if you use the exact same arguments and methods on them. So don't get mad or discouraged...I never do. Just Do It...and damn the torpedos...one day they will thank you. :D:D:D |

Re: Wife made me laugh - "GAS Money"
Youse folks have it rough.
My wife GIVES me money to purchase things like extra food, firearms, ammo, PM's (I consider brass and lead PM's also). I just got my last set of AK's. So I'm set in the firearms department. I've still got about $1k to spend on whatever. Considering doubling my AK ammo yet again. I did so last October. You can NEVER have too much ammo. Yes I reload as well. The only thing that's freaking me out right now is the cost of fuel. I saw diesel today for $3.89... and it's not even summer yet. I've got a buddy who trades in commodities (specifically oil futures - his investments have quadruapled in the past quarter) and HE SAYS expect between $5 - $6 for REGULAR unleaded. Diesel could be even worse. THAT scares me pretty bad. And I have it stored up. But that will be bad news for EVERYONE. |
Re: Wife made me laugh - "GAS Money"
it sounds like quite a few of our wives need to group up and head on over to the OP's house and have a luncheon with his wife ;)

Re: Wife made me laugh - "GAS Money"
I have not been buying PMs for long and the first time I bought a 100oz bar at $1100 she about killed me with it. I jokingly asked her if I should sell it this weekend for $2000 and she stopped dead in her tracks and asked how much we had. I told her 102 ozs otherwise I think she would have cashed us out. She now gets the PMs and supplies but is a bit wary still of the G & A. Of course I think she would rather I had more PMs than ammo but that is just not the case.

You know, there is just something about the chemistry difference between women and men when it comes to things like preparation. Mind you there is a minority of women that can see the signs and they probably post/read forums like GIM. It does make it a lot easier though, when you wife doesn't question your decision to spend money on GAS :D However, I try not to talk about it too much around her because I think she sometimes has a hard time dealing with the reality of the situation, not that she can't handle it but it isn't a very positive topic to discuss. You sound like the perfect mate for her and she for you. She loves God... so wouldn't He want her to have a husband that would protect her and take care of her... Sounds like He couldn't have picked a better guy. :applause_ :applause_ So she buys shoes ... there are worse vices. Maybe it's her job to pray for you, which I'm sure she does, so it sounds like you are covering the "here and now" and she is working on the "hereafter". Perfect! Peace TLM |
Re: Wife made me laugh - "GAS Money"
Guns were the hardest part with my wife. Full pantries she likes, and cases were just a small step up. Now she gets extra stuff each shopping. And she is very happy about our gains on our PMs.
I kinda missed mentioning how much ammo I ordered in my 1 big buy and put it away quietly. :D I only buy a box of 22 or something in her presence. I would not lie if she asked me, but I suspected she might think I'd gone overboard. I was just thinking with what metal prices were doing what ammo was going to do and thought I'd better get it cheaper. But she has gotten a whole lot better about guns. I'm thinking about one of those new mossberg 12 ga shotguns, autoloader, that have reduced recoil for her shotgun. Maybe Christmas. She does not complain about the kick of my 12 ga though. But I'd rather she had something that did not kick so hard. And since she asked for a shoulder holster the other day, she might like a shotgun for Christmas. 2 shotguns would make a strong impression on intruders. There have got to be easier pickings than facing that. |

River R, and I quote...
I classify her as a very intelligent person who absolutely has no intention of believing the DOW could crash or America will not remain the same for the next one hundred years. All you have to do, is plot a chart of the DOW in gold terms. It then looks like a sliding "commodity", which is exactly the case. Maybe that will open those beautiful eyes... |

Re: Wife made me laugh - "GAS Money"
I read these posts out loud to my wife just now. That was fun.
Her reply: "Haven't they ever heard that the man is supposed to rule the household?" This out of the mouth of someone under the age of 30! How's that for a real throwback? Anyway, if anyone has a supporting wife, it is me. She out shoots me at the range, lets me buy all the metal I can manage and helps me pack grains into 5 gallon buckets. I drive the car, she is my passenger (but we would be nothing without one another) and we love life together. Her ideas about things fill in the gaps and our family benefits big time accordingly. Our only difference is that I am a voracious reader and normally out pace her by 5 minutes on the news stuff. Her conservative family views keep me from flying into orbit at the most important times. What can I say? I just love her. |
